Gilgit city is the capital of Gilgit Baltistan. The city is located on the bank of gilgit river and serves as a junction point along the Karakuram highway. Gilgit is a popular tourist destination and is a hub for mountaineering expeditions in the Karakuram mountain range. The best time to visit the valley is from May to mid October. There are many historical sites of ancient remains such as kargah buddha and monument of Taj mughal.
The beautiful Ghizer valley is just 73km away from the gilgit valley. The valley is just the right place to visit for those who are interested in Cherry Blossoms. The valley turns into different shades of pinks in spring starting from March to April. It can be compared with cheery blossom festive cities of Japan without any doubt. Apart from them, this place is abundant in roses, lilies, pansies, willow, pine and fir trees. Trees of apples, apricots, peaches, plums mulberry, walnuts, persimmon and fruits like grapes and pomegranate are seen everywhere from June to October.
The city also serves the needs of trekking lovers with treks like Sherqila trek to Naltar valley and Singal trek which links with Chilas and Kohistan valley. These are filled with amazing views and paases through lush green fields, alpine forests and streams with crystal clear water in them.
The city also serves as a gateway to other beautiful valleys such as Hunza, Nagar and Khunjareb pass to china border.
